ICKWELL 2ND VS WARBOYS 3RD . HUNTS COUNTY DIVISION 4.
This game was shortened to 35 overs as Ickwell had not been informed of a change of venue and hence were much delayed in arriving for the start. Ickwell 2nd won the toss and put Warboys into bat. Sam Barrow (4 for 28) picked up two early wickets and Tom Beaty also got amongst the wickets in a very economical spell of 3 fo22 from nine overs. For the home side most of the runs came from Daniel Hyde (55) and Jack Pearson (62). Warboys were all out for 177. Ickwell 2nd managed to get these for the loss of 4 wickets with an over to spare. Tom Winetroube (59) led the way and continues to show a lot of promise and the main support came from Chris Rix (49 not out).

DRAMATIC COLLAPSE BY ICKWELL TURNS CERTAIN VICTORY INTO A LOSS
For everyone, players on both sides, umpires and spectators, who was on The Green on Sunday it was very difficult to see how Ickwell 1st managed to lose this game when some good batting had put them in such a dominant position. Ickwell won the toss and put the visitors into bat. With the help of a century from David Albon (106) Letchworth made 235 all out. Daniel Denton (3 for 56) and Ross Fensome (3 for 31) were the most successful of the bowlers. It looked as if the Letchworth total might be a lot lower until it was boosted by some big hitting at the end of their innings. The Ickwell 1st innings got off to a rapid start as a swashbuckling innings by Ben Welch (100) and runs were coming at will at about ten an over. It all looked so easy as the home side had complete control of the game. Ben had good support from skipper Milin Gandhi (28) and Harry Fallows (37). Ben was bowled by David Albon almost immediately after he had reached his century but by Ickwell were in a very comfortable position as they only needed sixty odd runs with plenty of overs left and a over rate of under three required. It was a position where it just required some batsmen to bat steadily and take ones and twos on offer to get home to a very comfortable win. At this stage all the spectators, umpires and opposition players had decided an Ickwell victory was a foregone conclusion. But then three of the middle order batsmen decided to play some unnecessarily adventurous shots and holed out. After this leg spinner William Aitkenhead (5 for 33) proved too much for the late order batsmen. Ickwell wickets fell rapidly and they were all out for 223 with fourteen overs still left. They lost by just 13 runs. Unbelievable. This was all very hard to watch and your correspondent quickly went home for a stiff gin and tonic!!
ICKWELL 2ND VS LUTON TOWN & INDIANS 4TH BEDS COUNTY DIVISION 5.
Ickwell 2nd won the toss for a second time this weekend and put Luton Town & Indians 4th XI into bat. Tom Jackson bowled a very economical opening spell and Maulik Shah (3 for 31) picked up wickets later in the innings. All the Luton Town middle order made runs and they finished their innings on 213 for 8. Apart from Ben Fensome (51) there was not much response from the rest of the Ickwell batsmen with only two others making double figures. Top scorer for the innings was Mr Extras with 52. Ickwell 2nd lost by 54 runs.

ICKWELL 1ST VS CASTORS & AILESWORTH 1ST . HUNTS COUNTY DIVISION 1.
Ickwell 1st batted first and made a pretty disastrous start from which they never recovered. Unfortunate Matt Hamilton, playing his first game for Ickwell had the worst possible start as he was bowled with the first ball of the innings. The middle order batting was then quickly removed and the home side soon slumped to 31 for 4 . Peter Sowerby (32) and Paul Oakins (44), supported by useful contributions from Tom Winetroube and Ben Fensome enabled Ickwell to get to a modest total of 166-9. Ryan Evans of Castor had the remarkable bowling figures of 4 from 17 for his ten overs. Mark Wheat and Cameron Dockerill with an opening stand of 67 got Castor off to a good start. Matt Hamilton’s day got even worse as he was injured after bowling just one ball. Ickwell skipper Daniel Denton did his best with 3 for 49 but Joel Tadman (55 not out) and Saquib Farroq took the visitors to a comfortable victory with 18 overs to spare.

Eaton Socon 1st came to play on Ickwell Green on a glorious sunny day. They may have been surprised by the number of spectators and cars parked on The Green with people not only coming to watch the cricket but also to see a spectacular flying display by The Red Arrows later in the afternoon. The visitors won the toss and as expected chose to bat. They got off to a reasonable start with Terry Day (43) and Daniel Wood (50). But Daniel Denton with 3 for 27 from his nine economical overs and Joel Hirst (3 for 61) was soon amongst the wickets to get Ickwell 1st back into the game. Eventually Eaton Socon were dismissed for 233 from their 45 overs. Ickwell’s cause was not helped by giving away 46 extras including 26 wides! The harsh leg-side rule means bowling straight is essential in this league. In reply Ickwell 1st got off to the best of starts with an opening stand of 95 between Ben Welch (54) and Peter Sowerby (36). Peter Sowerby frustrating the opposition as he steered the ball to the boundary on what was a fast outfield. But the middle order failed to build on this start as they all reached double figures but no-one went on to make a significant match-winning score. The damage was done by Eaton Socon’s Joe Watling with 5 for 30 from his 6.3 overs. By the thirty-sixth over Ickwell had slumped to 190 for 8 and still needed a further forty-four from the last nine overs. Joel Hirst (24 not out) then batted very sensibly and with the help of an unexpected six from Alec Wing (16) took Ickwell to within striking distance of getting over the winning line. Unfortunately Alec Wing then attempted another big hit to go for a winning six but was caught off a skier. Another tight finish with Ickwell losing by 5 runs with just three balls to spare.

At Eaton Socon visitors Ickwell 2nd won the toss and chose to bat. Andrew Simpkins (49) and Darren Williams (58) got them off to a good start with an opening stand of 110 from 27 overs. A couple of quick wickets were then lost but Ben Fensome (37 with six fours) took over and helped get Ickwell to a final total of 178 for 6 from their 40 overs. The home side lost a couple of early wickets and Sam Barrow put in his usual tidy spell of bowling with 1 for 21 from his seven overs. This meant that after 27 overs the scores were very similar with Eaton Socon on 113 for but having lost three wickets. By now it was clear that the match was heading towards a tight finish. Ewan Wlkinson picked up a couple of wickets and Matthew Childerley (67) was top scorer for Eaton Socon. Chris Dickerson (25 not out) saw the home side through to 179 for 6 as Ickwell 2nd lost by the narrowest of margins with four balls remaining.

Cricket Match reports for Ickwell Cricket Club 3rd May 2016
ICKWELL 1ST VS LUTON TOWN & INDIANS 2ND . BEDS COUNTY DIVISION 2.
Ickwell 1st won the toss and chose to bat. This match was dominated by the performance of two Ickwell batsman who both made large scores – Ben Welch with 112 from 84 balls, including fourteen fours and five sixes, and Harry Fallows with 96, including seven fours and five sixes. Harry was unlucky not to go on to make his maiden century in senior cricket. But the Ickwell 1st innings had not get off to a good start when Ross Fensome went in the second over. But Peter Sowerby joined Ben Welch at the crease as they set the foundation for the Ickwell innings with a second wicket stand of one hundred and one. This was added to by the third wicket partnership between Harry Fallows and Ben Welch which continued to pile on the runs before Ben was dismissed with the score on 171 for 3. There was a bit of a hiccup as a couple of quick wickets fell but young Harry held the innings together and Ickwell got to a match winning total of 289 for 8. For Ickwell Joel Hirst got the first wickets to fall as he had two batsmen dismissed in the tenth over. Later Dan Denton (3 for 13) and Ben Welch came onto bowl and then wickets began to fall at regular intervals and by the thirty-first over Luton Town & Indians 2nd’s were 122 for 9. Number eleven Zahid Khan made a quick 33 before the home side were all out for 165. A handsome win for Ickwell 1st by 124 runs and an encouraging start to their season.
ICKWELL 2ND VS EGGINGTON FORESTERS 2ND BEDS COUNTY DIVISION 5.
The visitors batted first and made 189 for 9. For Ickwell 2nd Tom Jackson got a couple of early wickets and Gerry Ingham bowled a tidy spell with 1 for 25 from his nine overs. The most threatening and successful bowler was newcomer Ewan Wilkinson with 3 for 32. A disastrous start was made to the Ickwell 2ndinnings as Steven Proudman went for a duck in the first over and this was quickly followed by the dismissal of Chris Rix. Another newcomer James Moseley got off to a good start but then was unfortunately run out. Then Jamie Barnes tried to steady the ship with a vigilant innings but when he was out the score was just 66 for 5 and Ickwell’s hopes of victory had gone. But Ewan Wilkinson (36) stayed around and hit a few boundaries which helped the home side get to a three figure total. Eggington Foresters won by 86 runs but the game suffered from a lack of non-playing umpires.
